If your e-commerce business is very much customer-focused, then Frank Kern has some serious use cases to consider.
In an interview for the Huffington Post, Kern talked about how he views marketing as something that should be completely about the customer.
“There’s a misconception among business people that it’s about the ‘thing’ they’re selling or it’s about the marketing they’re doing to sell that ‘thing,” said Kern, “It’s never about the thing you’re selling (which, of course, should be excellent).
The most important thing is the market, the people that the thing is going to be sold to.
There must be an existing market of people who are intensely interested in getting the result that the thing promises and that the thing must deliver. Without the focus on that first, all is lost.”
Kern went on to talk about adding value to a marketing campaign.
“Metaphorically, if you have someone who’s hungry and you give them a little bit of food, you’ve only whetted their appetite and they’re going to be hungrier.
So the methodology I like to use is pull, instead of push. You make your marketing itself valuable to the end-user and when you do that, they come to you.
You don’t have to chase them. You don’t have to use the hype. You don’t have to bash them over the head or any of that. Just demonstrate you can help them by actually helping them. It’s a novel concept.”
Frank Kern’s philosophy for marketing is interesting because it heavily relies on absorbing whatever content he pushes through his products and courses, but he’s also a fairly staunch supporter of using communication tools for marketing that are quite cheap.
In an episode of the podcast Perpetual Traffic from back in 2016, Kern was asked for his advice for maximizing end-result for opt-in or sale.
“I would say to think long-term,” Kern told podcaster Keith Krance, “The sales and the money from the show [The Frank Kern Show on Facebook Live] have really been an ancillary benefit. The show is really built for that binge-watcher and to deliver goodwill, so I wouldn’t go into it, expect, ‘I’m going to do this show and I’m going to see this many sales from it.’ [...] It’s not a significant amount of money, anyway, it’s thirteen grand or whatever, considering the reach, that’s really nothing. My advice to anyone starting it would be A, to start it, just get […] a $20 iPhone holder and just talk. I’ve done them [Facebook Live streams] from the car, with interviews from the car. It doesn’t matter, but just do something, do it consistently, have a structure where there’s a specific mission for every show you’re doing. Today, this was all about this Moda process for solving problems and maximizing efficiency. Last week’s show was about copy. Always have a specific mission.”
Kern is also adamant about the fact that he does not offer “get rich quick” schemes to his clients, but rather prefers to offer useful and actionable advice to business owners who are struggling to get conversions in a way that matters.
On the negative side, Kern’s products are extremely expensive, tipping the scales at over $4,000 for some programs.
In any case, we’d have to say that Kern is worth checking out simply because he’s not constantly pedaling the money side of things.
He offers lessons and advice for building a business and marketing effectively-- it’s as simple as that.
