Today, I’ll be taking a look at Keap - an automation and CRM software.
Is it worth it?

Keap, formerly known as InfusionSoft, is a business growth platform.

I’d say that Keap’s main strength is still the CRM feature.
They’ve gotten started with CRM and lead management automation early, way back in 2004.
They’re definitely pioneers in that field.
However, by adding extra goodies to their software, they’ve managed to turn InfusionSoft into Keap, which has a lot more features for entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses.
Keap currently has 4.1/5-star rating on Capterra, and it works wonders for one-man bands when it comes to lead tracking.
However, the integration with sub-tools like automation and email marketing can get a little confusing.
Here’s my two cents on Keap features:
Keap definitely gave me a lot of features to work with, which isn’t necessarily a good thing.
It’s all about that integration and usefulness for business owners.
I haven’t had the chance to review a lot of growth tools that offer CRM, so I got really excited about Keap!
Since their predecessor is InfusionSoft, CRM was to be expected.
And it does not disappoint.
Keap will help you keep track of every lead through their profiles:
This is pretty handy, especially as you start scaling your business.
Normally, you’d have to keep track of your leads and customers through a spreadsheet (or not track it at all, which is way worse).
But with Keap, you can seamlessly stay in touch with them, and make sure you’re not missing out on any up-sell or conversion offers.
Additionally, you’ll get personalized email suggestions, email templates, and you can even automate email follow-ups.
Imagine if you onboarded 100 new leads one day.
It’d be impossible to get in touch with all of them, and personalize your emails while you’re at it.
With Keap, you can follow-up with and onboard new leads properly.

If you’ve got a tool that automates this aspect of your marketing, growing your business will be much, much easier.
Secondly, you’ll be able to segment your audience.
What is email segmentation?
Email segmentation is the process of dividing your contacts or email subscribers into groups according to their interests, activity, and more shared factors. This way, you can personalize at scale.
This is pretty handy for making sure you’re maximizing the lifetime value of all your contacts.
For example, leads may be interested in one product type. Customers might want an upgrade, and so on.
With email segmentation, you can sell to all of them, by adapting to everyone’s unique needs.
Keap also has simple email marketing automation features.

All in all, Keap’s email marketing features are simple, but powerful.
Keap recently rolled out a new feature, landing page builder.
Similarly to tools like systeme.io, Keap allows you to pick from a gallery of templates and then customize them to fit your branding.

After building your landing page, you can add it to your automation sequence.
Since landing pages are the “crown jewel” of your sales funnel, it’s great that Keap offers this feature.
The differentiation based on different traffic sources and other characteristics is a nice touch for personalization at scale, as well.
Keap’s marketing automation system is fueled by their CRM and email marketing.
What does that mean?
You can set up triggers like I explained above, and Keap will automatically send relevant emails to your contacts.
This is pretty handy for lead nurturing through email sequences. However, that’s all there is. Honestly, I found it to be a little underwhelming.
Moving on, folks!
The main benefit of SMS marketing is that everyone opens texts. In 2018, text messages had an 98% open rate.
Keap’s definitely forward-thinking with this feature, and I love it!
So in addition to email, you’ll also be able to keep track of your contacts’ texts and calls.
They’ll be added to their customer profile, so you can automate accordingly.
Keap’s sales pipeline feature is a great feature for sales teams.
However, even if you’re running the entire business yourself, you could benefit from it.
Sales pipeline allows you to visualize where your leads and customers are in your funnel:

For example, when a lead gets an offer, you can re-qualify them as a prospect.
This is a significant perk for B2B businesses!
The features I’ve covered so far are the most effective features for growing your business from 0 to hero with Keap.
However, Keap also offers a few features for scheduling and paperwork:

Just consider the fact that you can build landing pages visually.
Normally, you’d have to either learn how to code, or pay someone to do it for you.
But with Keap, you just have to drag and drop sections to create an effective landing page.
Similarly, it doesn’t take a lot of knowledge to create automation rules.
This is why I really love all-in-one tools, or at least tools like Keap which offer a few tools within their offer.
You don’t have to learn the intricacies of each tool; you can get things set up with just a few clicks.
If you don’t use a tool like Keap, you’ll have to pay for a few tools:
And that’s just what you need to get started.
However, Keap offers all of these features within one roof, so you’re not paying for an entire tool stack.
What Keap doesn’t offer natively, it makes up for with its integrations.

Keap is a handy tool, but it does have a few significant disadvantages:
I think you’d get the most value out of Keap if you’ve been running your business for a while.
It’s pretty heavy on the CRM side.
And while email automation is a nice touch, it’s still not as simple and sales-focused as some other tools.
Normally, tools that offer landing page builders offer plenty of conversion-focused elements, as well as advanced sales funnels.
Unfortunately, Keap does not.
So yes, you might use it for a portion of your work.
However, if you want to minimize your costs and maximize your sales in the beginning, check out the Keap alternative I’ll cover in a sec.
I’ll talk about Keap pricing below, but in short - I’m not impressed.
I feel like they could’ve offered a lot more features for entrepreneurs to warrant the $79/mo asking price for the most limited plan.

However, you won’t be able to use the landing page builder, or marketing automation which will make it a lot harder to scale.

This is the plan you’d have to pick if you wanted to grow your business as fast as possible with Keap.
Finally, the last plan is actually Infusionsoft, and it’s recommended for agencies and big companies.
When it comes to pricing, keep in mind that the pricing is expressed for up to 500 contacts and 1 user.
So if you have more contacts or want to add other team members, you’ll have to pay more.
If you want a tool more powerful and more affordable than Keap, then you’ve found it!
