That’s what they’ve done over at Mailerlite. They’ve built an email marketing software that focuses on the tools and features you’ll use rather than the ones they can brag about.
First off, they have a free plan that offers a lot of features.
In the free plan, you get automation tools and email editing features.
The software is easy and simple to use. Plus, they offer a landing page editor. You can use your own domain or one of theirs.
Sounds good right?
It’s great until you realize that they have remarkably low deliverability rates, lack of reporting, and limited automation.
If you’re a small business starting out with email marketing, you might find Mailerlite useful, though.
The editor is easy to navigate, it’s simple to build out automations and lists, and you can integrate everything with WordPress.
Once you understand how all of this works, you could upgrade to something more intuitive

One thing I found highly useful about GetResponse is the number of testing options they offer.
They allow you to A/B test just about everything from email templates, copy, landing pages, videos, and more.
You can embed videos into your emails and send out two to the same list to see which performs better.
As for automation, they use something called intelligent list automation where you can add many different conditions to the visitors who land on your website.
They are segmented automatically based on the actions they take on your site.

Finally, let’s take a look at ConvertKit. This newbie to the email marketing world vows to make email easier for professional bloggers.
They approach the more creative side of digital marketing, and they try to appeal to bloggers, podcasters, and course creators.
The main problem they have with this strategy is having a severe lack of creativity in the designs of their emails.
When I say severe, I mean they only offer three different templates, and all of them are text-based.
You would think they would offer video options, drag and drop editors, and more like Systeme.io (and pretty much everyone else).
Not to mention they cost more than ActiveCampaign and GetResponse and ConvertKit isn’t nearly as intuitive or advanced as either of those options.
I’m not sure where they got their pricing advice from, but the service is way overpriced.
On the plus side, ConvertKit has a great landing page editor to help with your campaigns, and the workflow makes it easy to move people between tags. You can quickly create segmented lists and focus down your campaigns on a specific group of contacts.
I also noticed that you occasionally need to play around with code to format emails which is another major red flag for me.
If you’re running a small business or you’re a freelancer, you don’t have time to waste. Everyone is using drag and drop editors without the need to mess with any code.
ConvertKit is simply too basic and boring to charge this much, that’s my bottom line.
