PayKickStart Review: Is It The Best Cart?

How many times did you want to start an online business, but the mere prospect of launching and scaling scared you off?

Been there, done that.

That’s exactly why I’m on the mission to find the best online sales and marketing tools.

During my journey, I’ve reviewed everything from ClickFunnels to ThriveCart.

(Heck, I even built my own tool!)

But there’s one specific type of tool that doesn’t get mentioned often: affiliate marketing and subscription billing.

If you run a membership site, or if you want to promote any kind of business on the cheap, subscription billing and affiliate marketing, respectively, are your most important assets.

And today, I’m reviewing PayKickStart: a tool that promises to help you increase your sales with cart optimization and affiliate marketing.

Let’s see what PayKickStart has to offer!

1. What is PayKickStart?

What is PayKickStart?

An online platform, launched in 2016, PayKickStart is making the complex integrations, procedures and back-end of running a business super easy for you.

PayKickStart promises to take care of everything:

  • Creating a seamless website to generate sales leads
  • Setting up different payment options
  • Creating a database of customers who would love your product

To put it succinctly, PayKickStart does all the heavy lifting for you at a price point that will cost you less than a dinner with friends.

2. Who should use PayKickStart?

Who should use PayKickStart?

Before I get into the specifics, I wanna talk about PayKickStart’s audience: should you use this tool?

While PayKickStart can be used by everyone, it’s best suited for newbies in the world of online business.

If you’re a master of the trade, you might want to take a step back.

PayKickStart essentially helps you build everything from the ground up.

Sure, it does have neat conversion optimization features, but I don’t think it’d make the cut for pros.

PayKickStart’s user interface is perfect for people who have great products, but don’t know how to sell them (yet).

It’s also great for budding entrepreneurs and startups who haven’t received funding.

If you’re on a budget and you need to create your MVP, PayKickStart is your destination.

With that in mind, it’s time to skip straight to features!

3. PayKickStart features

PayKickStart has a few powerful features

And while it might not be everything you need to start and scale your business, it does resolve some of the most important doubts right away.

3.1. Payment processing and cart optimization

 Payment processin

Payment processing is one of the central PayKickStart features.

Fortunately, it offers plenty of gateways, so you won’t be losing customers because a payment method doesn’t work for them.

With PayKickStart, you get all the payment gateways you need in one place:

  • EasyPayDirect
  • PayPal
  • BrainTree
  • Authorize.net
  • Stripe

With PayKickStart, you can accept payments via credit cards and wire transfer, along with PayPal.

(They’re also working on integrating Apple Pay and GPay ASAP, so watch out for that.)

All these methods and modes mean you can easily set up online, POS and/or mobile payments.

It’s a great option if you’ve got a brick & mortar business, as well as an online store!

 cart optimization features

Once the customer reaches the cart, you’ve got to make sure they don’t bounce.

PayKickStart offers a lot of cart optimization features, as well:

  • Custom APIs
  • Pop-up widgets
  • Embeddable checkout forms
  • Different checkout templates

3.2.PayKickStart conversion optimization features

PayKickStart comes with a ton of features designed to increase your revenue and conversions with zero fuss:

  • 1-click upsells

When your customer adds a product to their cart, you can easily offer them a complementary product.

And instead of making them go through the whole checkout process again, the product will be added to their cart with 1 click.

  • Coupon codes

Offering coupon codes or discounts (percentage and a fixed rate) at the checkout is a sure-fire way of closing the deal, and that’s exactly what PayKickStart offers.

Coupon codes
  • Order bumps

Add more products on the checkout page, and improve your chances of increasing your customer’s order value.

  • Auto-completes and pre-filled pages

If you’re an online shopper, you know how excruciating it is to fill out all your address details and contact info whenever your page refreshes or you decide to buy from a business again.

Make sure this doesn’t happen on your website with address auto-complete and pre-filled checkout pages.

  • Exit intent pop-ups and retargeting

Exit intent pop-ups allow you to ask your customers whether they really want to leave when they’re about to close the tab.

This gives you a final chance to have them reconsider your offer, and close the deal.

Similarly, using Google and Facebook retargetingallows you to capture the visitors you thought you’ve lost.

3.3. Subscription management

Mobile optimisation

If you’ve got a subscription-based business (e.g. a membership site), which is always a good idea because you’re getting recurring revenue, PayKickStart makes it a lot easier to make bank!

PayKickStart offers flexibility to your customers. They can upgrade or downgrade their plans anytime they want.

This is a major conversion booster.

Additionally, they offer different subscription models:

  • Custom pricing
  • Free trials
  • Usage-based pricing

3.4. Dunning management

A happy customer is a repeat customer, but sometimes even the most loyal folks forget to renew their subscriptions.

And if their cards bounce (who hasn’t spent a little too much on a shopping spree?), they normally get unsubscribed - even if they could use a different payment method.

This is where dunning management comes in!

Dunning is a process that tracks and reminds customers who aren’t regular with their payments.

PayKickStart allows you to recover the lapsed payments, send reminders, and even create a database of “at-risk” customers.

It also allows you to update the billing method to ensure the customer is not facing any hiccups there.

They can update it themselves through the self-service portal, as well!

3.5. PayKickStart affiliate marketing

Okay, here’s the thing: I love affiliate marketing.

It’s definitely one of the best methods to promote your product without paying up front.

You only pay your affiliates after they successfully sell your product, so it’s a win-win.

PayKickStart already has all the tools you need to start running your own affiliate marketing program.

It also has a marketplace with over 50,000 + vendors.

You’ll get plenty of options:

  • Instant or delayed commissions
  • Different payment methods to pay your affiliates
  • W9/W8 tax form collection
  • Automatic bonus delivery
  • Built-in marketing materials
  • Leads and sales tracking

And more!

All in all, PayKickStart’s affiliate marketing program is one of its best features.

3.6. Accounting and billing

Raise your hand if you hate managing invoices.

(My hand definitely shot up.)

Often, it’s exactly the creation of invoices and keeping your accounting in check that stops you from focusing on sales.

With PayKickStart, you get to create stellar invoices, reports and insights, transaction and subscription event leads, along with keeping an activity log on all the payments done and the due on upcoming ones.

It takes care of everything. Just go through the initial setup and you’ll be ready to roll!

3.7. Analytics and reporting

Analytics and reporting

You’ll see everything you need to know at a glance in the centralized PayKickStart dashboard.

You can easily tweak it to:

  • Keep track of metrics you care about
  • Create sales funnel visualizations
  • Filter by specific information
  • Create simple and effective reports

3.8. Customer is king

With PayKickStart, you can easily customize your communication with customers and affiliates.

For example, you can send emails to affiliates when they close a deal.

Similarly, you can use trigger-based reminders to remind your customers of a payment due date.

A self-service billing portal allows your customers to feel in control, and update their payment methods and preferences.

All of this makes for a great customer experience. Your customers will be more likely to stay in it for the long haul!

4. PayKickStart pricing

PayKickStart pricing

PayKickStart has 3 pretty powerful pricing plans:

You’ll also get a 14-day free trial with each plan. And if you opt to pay the annual price at once, you’ll save 20%.

4.1. Kickstart Basic plan [$29/mo]

This plan is perfect for individuals who want to test the waters.

Its features include:

  • Sell up to 5 products (physical and digital)
  • No transaction fee
  • Customer self-billing portal
  • Checkout template library
  • Payment, email and fulfillment integrations
  • Coupons
  • Tax Support
  • Reporting and contracts

4.2. PayKickStart Professional plan [$99/mo]

The professional plan is for small businesses who are just setting up shop and want to experiment with sales, leads and conversions.

Along with the perks of the Basic plan, you’ll get extra benefits:

  • Sell unlimited products
  • Bump up orders
  • Run your affiliate program and track CPA leads
  • Licensing and user management
  • APIs

4.3. PayKickStart Premium plan [$149/mo]

If you already have an established business, but you want to increase your revenue, then Premium is right up your alley!

In addition to all the features in Basic and Professional, you’ll also get:

  • Monitoring demographics
  • Audience interfaces
  • Monitoring uptime
  • Surveys

5. Is PayKickStart worth it?

It all comes down to how far ahead you are in your business.

If you’re just starting, figuring out everything can be overwhelming.

The same goes for paying to different vendors.

If you’re running your website on WordPress and paying for a tool like Commission Junction to manage your affiliates, it makes sense to get it all under one roof.

It will cost you less and you’ll save a lot of time.

Unfortunately, PayKickStart can’t replace your entire marketing stack.

6. PayKickStart alternatives: all-in-one

6.1. SamCart

SamCart logo

If you read PayKickStart reviews, you’ll notice that a lot of people mention SamCart as one of the best alternatives.

Just like PayKickStart, SamCart offers features such as:

  • Revenue optimization (1-click up-sells, order bumps)
  • Different payment plans
  • Payment processing
  • Subscription management
  • Dunning management
  • Affiliate management

But in addition to basic features, SamCart also has a visual landing page builder, and integrates tightly with email marketing software.

SamCart starts from $49/mo with a 14-day free trial.

6.2. Systeme.io: a more powerful and affordable PayKickStart alternative
