To help you to cancel your Squarespace subscription, we’ve put together a handy guide on how to go about it.

Because we all like trying new things and prefer to keep our options open, it’s important that you, as the customer, have the power to decide when you want to cancel your subscription.

1. How do I cancel my Squarespace account?

Cancelled

There are two ways to go about canceling your subscription:

  • You can choose to cancel your subscription immediately which takes your site offline. A word of caution - this function does exactly what it says. It cancels and removes your site.
  • Disable the auto-renew feature. This method will make sure that your site expires on the date you have selected.

1.1. What are the steps to cancel my subscription?

Head over to the Squarespace website and follow the simple steps listed below to cancel your subscription quickly:

  • In the Home Menu click on Settings, then click on Billing & Account
  • Click on Billing
  • Under Subscriptions, click on your site subscription
  • This will say Website or Commerce, depending on your plan
  • Once you’re done, you're all set to go

1.2. Take note before you cancel!

Before we get to the goodbye part, the system will display all of the other active subscriptions that you currently have.

These included things like domains that you have bought or purchased or transferred to Squarespace.

Active subscriptions also include Email Campaigns, Scheduling, and G-Suite.

After you click on cancel, your Account Dashboard displays the number of subscriptions that are still active on your account.

On that note.

The active subscriptions mentioned above are totally different from your website.

You’re going to have to cancel all of them individually if you want them removed.

They don’t cancel automatically.

1.3. What to know before you go...

Once you hit cancel, your subscription is immediately stopped, and your site, content, and online store are all removed.

Your content will be deleted 30 days after you terminate your site, so don’t forget to export everything so that it’s ready to be uploaded to its new home.

Auto-renew is recommended if you still need some time to test out the waters and aren't yet ready for a full-time commitment.

1.4. Will Squarespace keep my site or store content in case I come back?

Worried about unauthorized subscriptions coming off of your credit card?

Avoid future billing faux pau’s by using the steps listed below to disable the auto-renew feature.
