In this post, we’ll be looking at Wix’s emailing features and prices to help you determine whether your Wix website will be enough to gain an audience and drive traffic.

1. Email marketing with Wix — Getting started

It’s important to know that Wix is a website builder first, and an email marketing platform second.

To use Wix’s email marketing features, you need to already have a website/domain, either on Wix or elsewhere.

Wix’s plans don’t include email accounts, so you’ll need to purchase a separate service if you’re looking for a more professional-looking email address.

The service that Wix includes is Google Workspace.

Google Workspace is a range of Google’s cloud-based office platforms.

By using Wix, you’ll get access to Google Drive, Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

The cheapest plan comes with 30GB of Google Drive storage per user but also costs $6/user.

Once you have purchased and set up your business email(s), you’ll need to sign in to the admin business email to accept the Google Product Agreement.

You can’t access any of your other mailboxes until you’ve accepted the agreement.

At the time of writing, it’s not possible to transfer an existing email account or mailbox to Wix, even if your domain’s already transferred to them.

If their polling system indicates that this is a popular feature users want, then they might include it in future updates.

Luckily, you can connect your mailbox to Wix by adding DNS records (MX, A, CNAME, and TXT records) provided by your email host on the Domains page of your Wix account.

Formerly known as Wix Shoutout, Wix Ascend (Wix’s email marketing service) can be used as an add-on (for websites built on Wix only) to send emails.

Once you sign up for Wix’s website builder, you’ll automatically have access to Wix Ascend’s pre-installed free plan.

This plan comes with 5,000 emails every month, which can be divided into 3 email marketing campaigns and includes Wix branding on your emails:

Email campaigns on Wix are fully customizable, can exist as standalone landing pages, and come with key statistics and performance tracking software.

They are also mobile-friendly.

With Wix Email Marketing, you can:

It’s also important to note that you can only access the email marketing dashboard after creating an email campaign.

Wix’s email automation only covers a basic array of features using IF/THEN automation.

For example, IF a user subscribes to your email list, THEN an automatic Welcome email will be delivered to them.

These are also referred to as autoresponders.

With Wix, you can specify when an email should be sent (eg. 1 hour/day/week after the contact has acted).

To send triggered emails that are personalized for segmented customers, you’ll need to be a Velo by Wix user.

Velo’s open dev platform offers more advanced web design and automation capabilities, although these features cater more to your website than your emails.

3. How do you create email campaigns on Wix?

Creating email marketing campaigns on a Wix website follows a fairly straightforward process.

Choose one of their stylish email templates and select what you want to promote.

Wix will automatically add the desired text and images.

You can continue to tweak your email or send it as is.

In more detail, this process will look as follows:

First, start by choosing what kind of campaign you want to create:

A single product campaign (A)
A collection, sale, or discount campaign (B)

For A:

Go to the Store Products tab in your site's dashboard
Select the product you want to promote
Click Send Email Campaign on the right

Then click Create Email Campaign

For B:

Go to the Email Marketing tab on your site's dashboard

Note: When opening Email Marketing for the first time, you’ll be taken to the email campaign editor. If so, click the back icon at the top left

Select a template or click More Templates to view additional options

Now, it’s time to customize and send your campaign:

Add themes, background colors, customize your email footer, or re-order the elements in your email. Once you’re happy, click Next at the top right
Now, select the relevant contacts your email should go to or enter their email addresses directly

Enter the campaign details:

Subject Line — The subject line of the email
From Name — The name that the email is sent from. This may be your business or personal name
Reply-to Email — If a reader replies, the reply will be sent to the email address you enter here

Click Send

Note: When you click Send, you’ll be asked to confirm your email address.

Click Confirm Now and an email titled "Your Email Confirmation Code" will be sent to you (either in your Inbox or Spam/Junk folder).

If you sign up with an email address purchased with your Wix account, the email address automatically verifies.
