You’re greeted by Brian Dean right at the top, and you’ll quickly find that this blog is seriously minimalistic.
It’s really “a blog” with free and helpful tips to get you ranked on Google, nothing more.
Something I love so much about Brian is the amount of free value he gives away.
You can get thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of free information from this website instead of going out and paying money for a course.
You don’t need anything else when it comes to SEO other than what Brian is offering on his blog.
So, what can you expect to learn?
One thing you’ll find on the blog is Brian’s on-page SEO guide that he updates every year.
This guide teaches you how to optimize your content, create great URLs, write descriptions, and much more.
For those who don’t know, on-page SEO is using all of the data on your website to optimize your content for the search engines.
This can include title tags, blog content, internal links, URLs, meta descriptions, and so on.
These factors have a much smaller impact on SEO than they used to, but they’re still an important aspect and something you should do if you’re serious about ranking your website.
Think about it this way, one of the most important factors of on-page SEO is your title tag.

If you don’t know what backlinks are, let’s talk about it for a minute.
A backlink is a link on someone else's website that refers your website to its visitors. For example, when I include a link to Brian’s website, that would be a backlink for him.
When a website has a lot of backlinks, Google sees it as a high authority website because a lot of people are referring to their content.
Google thinks, “well, many people seem to like this website, so it must be good. Let’s rank it higher.”
That’s the basics of link building. So, as a result, the website with the most backlinks tends to outrank websites that don’t have a lot of links.
Google has started using links as a significant ranking factor because it’s a way to cut through the bullshit, “so to say.”
You can’t cheat with backlinks (unless you use black hat which we’ll talk about).
If your content is good, people will link to it. If your content sucks, no one will link to it.
Simple as that.
Another tremendously important factor when ranking a website is keyword research.

Years ago, if you wanted to rank for “SEO for beginners” on Google, you could simply include that phrase 45,000 times, and you’d rank number one in a few days.
Google has since tackled that issue head-on, and now you need to play more strategically with your keywords.
Brian teaches you how to research and find keywords that are competitive enough for traffic but not too competitive that you’ll never rank.
Brian will teach you how to rank for any keyword you want as long as you implement the right strategies.
A keyword is a word or phrase that people will search for on Google when they’re trying to find information.
For example, I might look up the “best landing page software.” That is my keyword.
If someone is trying to rank a blog article for that keyword, they will want to include that phrase a certain amount of times throughout the article as well as in headers, photo alt tags, meta descriptions, and even title tags.
But it doesn’t stop there. In addition to having an anchor keyword, Brian teaches you how to find additional keywords that compliment the main one and pad your traffic a little more.
Let’s break down the difference between white hat and black hat SEO.
It’s essential to understand the right and wrong decisions you can make because doing the wrong things can get you penalized by Google, which will prevent you from ever ranking.
Websites following white hat techniques follow the rules.
They don’t try to manipulate the algorithm by doing things that provide a “shortcut” to success.
They also focus on the human audience they’re trying to reach.
If you’re implementing white hat SEO, you’re creating valuable content that people want to read and use.
Your reducing page load times, you’re writing skimmable content, and you’re using Google’s strategies to make your website the best it can be.
As you can likely guess, black hat SEO does the opposite of all of those things.
You’re using manipulative tactics to rank your website instead of following the rules.
Examples may include buying thousands of backlinks to websites that will likely get shut down in a few weeks.
Black hat SEO might also mean packing a ton of keywords into an article to the point where it doesn’t even sound good anymore.
For example, if I wanted to rank an article about the “best dog food,” black hat SEO would be something like this.
“The best dog food for your dog relies on having the best dog food for his health. The best dog food includes brands that provide healthy ingredients. Only feed your dog the best dog food because you want them to be healthy.”
What you just read is a paragraph of nonsense, and it provides no value to the reader whatsoever. It’s just stacking keywords as much as possible to try and cheat the system.
That will never work.
Another really common black hat strategy is duplicating content.
Now, Brian Dean teaches something called the Skyscraper Technique, and it relies a lot on duplication, but the main thing that separates it is the fact that you need to improve upon the current content, not just copy it.
If you’re looking at the number one ranking blog article in your niche and taking it word for word to try and outrank them, you’ll fall flat on your face.
