Launch Your Online Business in Just 7 Days
It’s interesting to say that sports and business have a lot in common, but there isn’t a truer statement to be made.
When you play sports, there’s a lot of competitiveness, it takes drive, motivation, and grit to be successful.
Wouldn’t you say a lot of the same goes for business and digital marketing as well?
No one will ever experience success unless they’re out there everyday grinding hard at their craft and learning as much as they can.
That’s what Brian Moran did.
He’s a professional baseball pitcher turned entrepreneur, and he’s helped build some popular tools as well as some incredible courses that will teach you some unique things you’ve never thought about before.
I think that was my first impression of Brian.
My first impression was that he’s not just one of these digital entrepreneurs who is creating a rehashing of every popular online course with the intention of selling it to someone.
He’s actually putting in the research and time to create something unique that is true to him.
I would say a lot of that integrity comes from playing sports as well.
Either way, Brian has a lot of success, and in this article, we’re breaking down what he has done and accomplished, so maybe you can learn a thing or two from his story.
From a business standpoint, Brian is a funnel builder. He builds funnels for others, and he builds them for himself.
The goal of every funnel that he builds is to limit the amount of time and effort you have to put in, and that’s why he specifically created the “one-page funnel” strategy that focuses on getting everything you need on one page and converting leads into customers with as little copy and editing as possible.
Brian is also the co-founder of SamCart. This is a web-based check out platform that boasts optimized checkout templates and tools to help you increase your conversions at the checkout stage.
Let’s talk a little about his professional baseball career to see if we can marry the two and find out why sports have led to business success for Brian.
He went to a prep school in New Rochelle, New York, where he played on his high school baseball team. Even back then, he was a pitcher, and he did receive a lot of awards like MVP and county player of the year during high school.
In 2007, he set off for the University of North Carolina, where he focused on his pitching as a reliever. He performed well with a 3.37 ERA and seven strikeouts across 13 games.
In 2009, he ended up having a fantastic year with a record of 7-1 with a 2.31 ERA, four saves, and 90 strikeouts. He was given third-team All American, and he ended up getting drafted in the seventh round of the 2009 MLB draft.
During his career, he bounced around a lot from one minor league team to another. By 2017, he had played for six different franchises. In February of 2020, he signed a minor-league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Baseball buffs might recognize his uncle B.J. Surhoff who played 18 seasons in the major leagues. He’s one of the only players in history to play every position except pitcher.
Let’s get back to business here.
Now you know everything about Brian's baseball career, let’s talk about how he can help you make some money.
Even though Brian has had a somewhat mediocre run in baseball, it’s worth mentioning that his business life has been anything but mediocre.
Brian offers a wide assortment of free and paid training to help you build simpler sales funnels that convert. Let’s dive in!
Starting with free stuff, if you head over to his website, you’ll find there is a big section talking all about the free training you can get on his website. Brian creates videos that focus on sales, funnel building, and traffic generation.
For example, he has one video at the top that talks about how he will teach you to hit $100,000 in sales without requiring a ton of traffic, a team, or a complex marketing funnel.
At the core of everything Brian does is a focus on eCommerce.
A lot of his training centers around helping eCommerce store owners and professionals increase their conversions, reduce their ad spend, and make more money from selling more products.
He even created something called the “1-page blueprint,” which teaches you his seven-step process for reducing objections and skyrocketing your sales using a one-page sales funnel. It all sounds like valuable information, right?
The problem I have right now with Brian is the fact that his content is very vague.
It doesn’t tell me a whole lot about how and what he’s actually going to teach me to accomplish those goals.
Everyone wants to go out there and say they’re a coach or consultant, but very few people can actually bring results for their clients.
That concern bothers me a little, but we’ll continue on anyway.
Now let’s move on and talk about Brian’s blog and see what type of value you can find in there.
For the most part, it looks like he rehashes a lot of his podcast episodes in the blog in text form. I will say that a lot of his topics look incredibly interesting, though.
But, some of them are super watered down and spammy like a lot of other online marketers.
The one blog post talks about how you can use a marketing diary to double your conversions, but he doesn’t actually talk about how you will double your conversions.
Just because something happened to him doesn’t mean it will happen for you. His marketing diary is a blank Google doc page, he isn’t providing a lot of value here.
That said, he does break down his ad campaigns into immense detail to show you some of the mistakes and wins he’s had, and that is always helpful.
It’s great to see what other business owners are doing so you can expand your knowledge and learn more about what you can do to overcome and step over the same mistakes.
Okay, so you’re probably wondering by now - how does Brian make money online, and how does he make enough to merit a review of his life and business?
Here’s where he makes most of his money.
Brian has a lot of courses and products that he sells, and they all have different tiers and levels that determine how much value you get and how much you pay.
Here’s a list of his products:
Let’s break down each of these in a bit more detail.
Inside this product, Brian teaches you how to boost conversions by as much as 40 times with a simple five-minute video.
With this product, you get the 5 Minute VSL, the page builder, the creation process, and the one-year promotion blueprint. These are all products of Brians.
You get it all for $94, not bad, right?
Ultimately what this program teaches you is how to create a sales video to sell your product or service.
If you’ve ever been inside a sales funnel, you know that a lot of people use videos inside their funnel to help sell their products, and that’s what Brian is teaching you how to do.
It’s a simple concept by $94 is a low price, so it seems worth it.
Now, if you’re trying to cut the learning curve here and get straight down to business.
For $47, you can forget about learning any skills or trying to do something yourself and simply copy his slides because he’ll give them to you.
I personally am not a fan of when people do this because you know you’re getting outdated information that might have been on this website for years now.
What converted in 2016 doesn’t convert in 2020, and beyond so it’s important that you realize that.
But still, for $47, you can’t go wrong.
Next, Brian will teach you how to copy his Facebook ads strategy. He uses this method to get $10,432 in free ads every day without having to spend any of his own money.
Just from being experienced in digital marketing, I can tell where he’s going with this.
Brian is teaching you how to use upfront offers to pay for your ads so you can then sell backend offers at a premium.
He’ll teach you this strategy, so you make enough money to break even on a smaller offer and make the bulk of your money on your upsells.
This is a popular strategy that all the most popular digital marketers like the founder of Clickfunnels, Russell Brunson use.
In this program, Brian teaches you how to double your sales without requiring more traffic.
He’ll teach you how to craft upsells and how to stack your upsells for the maximum amount of revenue.
It was fun to go through his funnel because he’s basically following the teaching of a lot of other funnel building experts to a tee and then teaching others how to do the same.
But hey, whatever works, right? You can pick up the ultimate upsell for around $997.
I think that’s a little overpriced for an upsell on a bunch of other programs because you’d have to take some of his other programs to figure out what you’ll need to do before the upsell.
Ah, here we go. Here is the training you need to understand before you can create upsells and downsells. You need to have something to sell in the first place!
In this program, Brian teaches you how to choose a niche, what to sell, and how to sell to your specific audience.
He teaches you how to choose a niche that you love and how you can profit from your passions.
Finally, he teaches you how to get paid before you even create your product by using beta testing and product launches.
You get all of this for a low price of $194. Not bad. The rest of the products that Brian offers are free books that help with more of the mental side of starting a successful online business.
Brian's podcast covers the gamut on topics ranging from online business to mindset to funnels, Facebook ads, eCommerce, conversions, optimization, automation, email marketing, interviews, and more.
One of Brian's biggest mainstream accomplishments is his New York Times Bestselling book, “The 12 Week Year.”
In the book, he talks about how you can shorten your execution cycle down from one year to twelve weeks. So what does that mean?
It means that businesses always focus on a calendar year with their goals, and they spread them out across 12 months, which leads to complacency and procrastination.
Instead, Brian wants you to take your 12-month goals and make them a 12-week goal.
This methodology reminds me a lot of the “10X” mentality of Grant Cardone.
Essentially what he’s saying here is he wants to help you use speed and urgency in your execution. It looks like a good read, so I would check it out!
This baseball player turned entrepreneur deploys a lot of the same strategies online as he does on the baseball field. It’s important to understand the way that grit, relentlessness, and accountability play into digital marketing.
If you want to be successful online, you need to realize that no one owes you anything, and you need to put in the work to get the result.
You also need to realize that you need the training and tools necessary to get the job done.
